Mysterious Rumblings and Vibrations in Windsor, ON, Canada are Causing Problems - August 2011 Video

"West end resident Gary Grosse compares the sound of the mysterious rumblings to the sound of "a fleet of diesel trucks idling next to your home."Photograph by: File photo by JASON KRYK, The Windsor StarIf just a handful of people were griping about mysterious underground rumblings and vibrations in their neighbourhoods, you could probably call them crackpots and get away with it.

But when you've got more than 250 official complaints registered with the Ministry of the Environment, and Facebook websites are springing up to track the noise, there's clearly something going on. So why can't anybody figure it out?

It was months ago when folks first started talking about the strange sounds and pulsing sensations that seemed to be emanating from beneath homes all across Windsor and Essex County.

One woman said it felt like being underground in Union Station, with trains passing overhead. The house would vibrate. The windows would rattle. It left her feeling unsteady on her feet and made her ears hum.

Someone suggested she might be suffering from tinnitus. Others thought she was crazy, until the neighbours admitted to hearing and feeling the same thing. Everybody who's experienced the rumblings has a similar description. The reports are strikingly consistent.

"I'd compare it to a fleet of diesel trucks idling next to your home," said west-ender Gary Grosse, who started one of the websites to log vibration times and share experiences. "I've learned it's a wide range of ages affected. And that people are experiencing the same symptoms - rattling windows, headaches, nausea. Even animals are being affected," he said "It's not something with the inner ear. It's definitely something real."

Real, yes. But pinpointing what, exactly, is causing the rumbling has turned out to be frustrating. MoE has ruled out all the usual suspects, like explosions at the salt mines, Zug Island, lake freighters and planes arriving and departing from Detroit's Metro Airport. We're not surprised by that assessment, since the rumblings are recent. All those enterprises have been around for years, so why would the vibrations start now?

Some firmly believe the influx of wind turbines is to blame, and while a company spokesman has refuted that possibility, it's worth further investigation. Those turbines are relatively new to Essex County. Did their arrival coincide with the vibrations, or is it just a coincidence?

MoE didn't deal with that issue when it suspended its investigation in May. "Our priority was to determine if an industrial source was causing the vibrations," said Teri Gilbert, issues project co-ordinator at the ministry's local office. "It doesn't seem the source is an industrial one."

Residents were angry with that response, and rightly so. Knowing what it wasn't didn't solve the problem. They were no closer to finding out what was causing the disturbance, and they wanted the ministry to dig deeper.

Natural Resources Canada stepped in and provided four seismic monitors to place at strategic locations throughout the city. Three of them are still at work collecting data, and it's hoped they'll finally solve the mystery.

It seems incredible that the answer still eludes investigators, considering all the technological advances at our fingertips. Since officials in Michigan and Ontario's Environment Ministry have both ruled out industry as the culprit, it's time to consider other sources, including those wind turbines.

Hopefully, the seismic readings will provide definitive results. But if they don't, the government can't just walk away. There has to be a reason for these sudden and disturbing rumblings, and residents need to know what it is."

Clintonville, wi has had something similar to this. Started 2 nights ago and is? completely baffling authorities. A seismologist has detect slight ground vibrations mimicking that a mining area. However, there is nothing of the sort in the area.

Something? weird ...
Something? weird has been going on outside, several nights about the same time, it sounds like thunder in the distance or fireworks, even on a clear night, it always sounds nearly the same. I know sound travels great distances this time of year, but this has been happening since probably around last Spring time, that I am aware of or longer & still clueless of the nature of these thunder rumblings.

i live across the ...
i live across the river in Detroit, but noticed strange rumblings back over of about? a year, more recently back in around 12/2011 just about every night at around 10 PM, it was like thunder rumblings but more sounding like explosions underground, I contacted a news media but was told to record it but was not able to. (continued next comment box)

I have never heard ...
I have never heard them during my entire life. I grew up in LaSalle on Golfview. I just bought a house on Kenwood off Matchette and my God I hear this thing every day and it is f**king annoying. It shakes my house and? my house is a very expensive, large high-quality house. Just remember, if it were me or you making these sounds the police would be @ your door within minutes and beat the living s**t out of you (not LaSalle Police, but Windsor yes). The vibrations occur several times per hour.

This is commical. ...
This is commical. They are standing right over windsor salt mines and this has been going on for decades. Blamming Zug island is funny. Why doesn't anyone else within a 360 radius of Zug island feel or hear the hum. It's only above the? mines that seems to be the issue

One more follow up ...
One more follow up because I've posted before: I think it's a kind of radar hum like from microwaves penetrated into home. It sounds like a lawnmower trying to be muffled? on full throttle. Changing my bed space to an air mattress from a coil spring mattress has really helped because metal absorbs radiation in this way. If you don't throw out your old mattress you won't get any sleep.

@Projectinsighter ...
@Projectinsighter its clearly states god created earth in 6 days and on the? 7th he rested. Pick up the f*cking bible and read it moron ! Im a university student studying greek and bibical studies and on the side im taking Life beyong earth as a natural science course. Trust me i know my s**t, it would be silly of you to even try to debate in a subject that you clearly lack knowledge in. Go do something more productive with your life

@jimbowillie121 theres scientific evidence of sedimentary rocks formed hundred of millions years ago. Its more plausible believe Earths age being billions of years old then reading? a stupid bible and believing god created us from dirt, and made everything on earth perfectly the way it is. we live near Curry Ave and Grand Marais and we hear it on a regular basis. It sounds like there is a truck parked outside. The first time I kept looking out the window but didn't see anything. Next I went outside, and couldn't hear anymore. It's like it resonates your house. It sounds like it's coming from the ground. If it was outside, I would expect to hear it louder in a direction, but it doesn't seem to be. I've turned off the heat? and power, it is not from something in or around the house.

I don't get the ...
I don't get the migraines anymore but I still hear it. A loud 'thud' yesterday makes me believe the cave structures in our aquifer collapsed somewhere and I can pretty well function again. The worst aspect is that it controlled my breathing. I used to be gasping for? air when it stopped.

from my understanding they found that the noises are coming from ZUG Island plants.. I took a video in the stamping plant I work? at, not Zug Island, but it's just to give an idea.
